n° 167 – July 2020

The BIR Non-Ferrous Metals Division held an excellent e-Forum in June. Although we were not able to shake hands and have a beer as we always do at our Conventions, thanks must go to the BIR Secretariat for its efforts in staging the forum and to all of our members for their support.

COVID-19 continues to batter many countries as second waves roll in, leaving us to ask whether our old lifestyle will ever come back?

Meanwhile, the markets rallied to their highest point for 12 months after China’s PMI went up from 41 to 50.5 and a new infrastructure budget worth RMB 40 trillion was announced. However, the newly-reclassified “recycled material” export/import procedure remains a mystery for now.

This issue of the BIR Non-Ferrous Metals Mirror sees the launch of a new format featuring a pre-recorded podcast discussion, comprising reports from four board members covering: Asia-Pacific; the Indian Ocean Rim; Europe; and the Americas. I hope you like the new approach and would welcome your feedback about any potential for improvements in the future.

In the meantime, stay safe and healthy.
